The channel focuses primarily on music from the world of Hip Hop, R'n'B, Reggae, Soul and Urban. Available in the United Kingdom and Ireland on subscription satellite and digital television services. The MTV Base brand first launched in the United Kingdom and in Ireland on 1 July 1999, later launching in other European territories such as the Netherlands and Germany. The channel was previously available in the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, France and other European countries but was replaced by MTV Dance in some territories from March 2008. MTV Base began broadcasting in widescreen on 28 March 2012. A European version will launch in 2015.
